Agia Anna Beach - No tourists yeah! — Evia, Greece
20 OCTOBER 2012 - We have breakfast at our hotel in Agria and then a few photos and check out. Today Mary drives. Troy made a suggestion to go to Evia Island and so we head that way. Our last few days here will be very low key and not doing much at all. Mary drives for several hours and spent a lot of our trip on E75 highway and paid about 5 tolls of nearly 3 euro each time, oh well beats driving through little tight streets. At one stage Mary looks at the speedo, oooopps 160 km and cars were overtaking me. Well just to be like the others on the road I drove in the middle of two lanes, only so Troy could take a photo and then back to been good. Hey they drive like that a lot here so I didn’t break the law hahaha! Anyway we get to Evia Island, its a big island and drive through a lot of towns. We head north and into the mountainous part of the island, its pretty and green. We finally decided to stay at Hotel Ariadni, at Agio Anna beach. We went and asked about the hotel and the nearby restaurant and as we walked in Troy got excited that there was only Greek menus. His words were “yes finally”. Oh yeah we are the only ones in this small hotel (30 euro) and this place is so deserted. I think locals look at us in a bit of shock when they see us.
We went for a walk on the beach which was the next block up and apart from us there were probably on 4 other people on the beach that we could see. We went for the walk up one end of the beach and saw some really old gorgeous looking shacks, one of them belonging to the locals that were sitting on the beach fishing. We went back to our room to chill out. Mary feeling sick, I think it was either car sickness (lots of windy roads) or from breakfast. Later in the evening we went and had dinner at the restaurant with greek menus. Well our excitement stopped as we were handed a menu in Greek and English. What we wanted to do is order off a Greek menu and have no idea what we are getting, we really wanted to do that but there goes that idea. We enjoyed a meal of calamari, saganaki cheese and zucchini fritters. All good. We went back to our hotel room where we were the only ones staying there.
21 OCTOBER 2012 - We had a slack morning, no breakfast included which was good actually for a change. We chilled out in our room, surfed the net and sorted some stuff out. We pack the car and Mary notices something in the grass, Troy’s undies had wings and flew away from the balcony, so I pick these stray undies and we had to laugh, well it was funny for us! We leave Evia Island and head closer to Athens somewhere.
