Big Fish and that — Bonito, Brazil

Bonito, Brazil

Hello,

So the party at the minibus driver's house didn't turn out to be dodgy at all and ended up being the best night out I've had so far. However it did descend into chaos after a few games of Caprinhia-pong and we all got very drunk including some of the oldies. If, and this is a big if, a Norwegian girl asks to be your partner for a game of Caprinhia-pong, say no, they cannot throw ping-pong balls to save their lives.

After the fun of the night before, the next day was very chilled. We had to wait until 10pm for our 12 hour bus ride to Bonito so made a short trip into Paraguay and just relaxed by the hotel's pool. Paraguay is one of the strangest countries I've ever been to, there is absolutely no border control and as our wheels crossed the border there were people trying to sell us things. Their relaxed immigration laws are supposedly designed to encourage people to spend money and I was amazed at how many different shops there were, from market stalls to a high class shopping mall selling watches worth thousands of pounds. We also had a chance to sample some of the local food, I am not sure if you can get it anywhere in the UK but this funny dish called 'Burger King' was delicious.

Our 12 hour minibus ride was horrific. Now in my youth, I was taught the cool kids sat on the back seats of the bus. Not on 12 hour bus rides they don't. Me and Sam had no leg-room, non-reclinable seats and were right on the wheel which meant we felt every single one of the 32,546 speed bumps from Foz do Iguacu to Bonito. Suffice to say we arrived in Bonito very grouchy.

Bonito is a quiet town which is very beautiful. The main landmark is a statue of two massive goldfish doing backflips in the town square. Yesterday we went to a local park that has a freshwater lake which you can swim with the fishes in. I know that sounds a bit rank but there is a lot of limestone present which you obviously know means that the water is very clear and clean. It was lovely to enjoy in the heat and we played volleyball and sunbathed for most of the day, trying to avoid the massive fishes. We had the last laugh on these fishes as we went to a posh fish restaurant in the evening which served said fishes in a stew.

Today we've had a very chilled day as a lot of the activities in Bonito are very expensive. However tonight it's one of our group member's birthdays and I am currently enjoying a beer before we head out.
