First couple of days in and the smile building. — Byron Bay, Australia

Byron Bay, Australia

Where I stayed
Pete Martin

Its 5am on day three so I thought time to write my first blog. What a couple of days. We had an awesome send off from the Children's Hospital which wasn't too emotional given I knew I would be seeing my family in Darwin in 11 days time .... and I can tend to get emotional....

Roads have been great except for freeway to Newcastle which was boring, but it all livened up as we hit Buckets Way out to Gloucester ... what a great and scenic ride that was. And yesterday along the Gwydir Hwy to Grafton, again an awesome drive and recommended for any bikers out there.

So far we have done about 900km which to my surprise has been all good. Nothing like having a sheep skin seat cover for comfort. Only small surprise we had was a roo jumping across the road first day in front of Gors car with me behind which saw quick breaking but was all good. reminds one to stay focused at all times.

First night we stayed with Adam Blakester. He was CEO of NAPCAN for 4 years and has worked with Greenpeace. He and his wife Clare were wonderful, had an incredible house(very eco friendly), cooked a superb dinner (needed after hoofing a pie for morning tea and burger for lunch) and Adam was a very interesting guy indeed. A very evolved thinking indeed on how to make changes sustainable.

Was great to get to Byron, Gors and I straight in the ocean for a quick swim and onto an old school buddies place, Pete Martin and his family. We all had dinner out and was joined by another old mate Simon Menlove. What was great to see was how happy both these guys are, clearly in a good space and lovin life in Bryon ....
