Ho Chi Minh City - death by motorbike — Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Day 1 in Vietnam - We arrived in HCM city after a nice flight, we even got fed on the plane... more noodles.
We arrived at the hotel in HCM, unpacked alittle and then headed into the city. It was mentally busy, motorbikes and scooters everywhere. You literally had to walk slowly across the road and they would just drive around you, the first couple of streets we crossed we just closed our eyes and hoped to reach the otherside. We walked around the city, not really sure where we were heading and came across a park with people doing random exercises on these swinging leg machines things, so we decided to have a go.
The the rain fell... (it rained a lot during our time in Thailand) it was the heaviest rain i have ever seen, it only lasted about 10 minutes then stopped. People we in the streets sweeping away the water.
We got back to the hotel and decided to go for a swim in the pool before meeting up with the rest of the tour group for our first night in Vietnam.
Our first night in Vietnam, we met up with the tour group for dinner and drinks. The food in Vietnam was amazing, sooo much to try and so cheap too. Cocktails were 60,000 dong which is like 3quid :-) After dinner we went to a little bar in the city and played darts and sat around chatting to the rest of the group
Day 2 in Vietnam - A day of sunshine. Today we went to the War tunnels. We learnt all about the Vietnam war and how the country divided. We even got to go in the War tunnels, we lasted about 200 yards before we both decided to get out, the tunnels are like 4 foot high and 2 foot wide, so you can imagine how fun that was, it was like 100' in there too.. not fun. we then got to try tapioca and tea, a little odd but apparently what they ate in the war time.
That evening we were heading out of the city to a coastal area called Nha Trang, but before that we had to endure our first sleeper train. We all got take away pizzas to prepare us for the journey... which wasn't actually too bad. The trains were clean, we each had our own bed, duvet, pillow and clean sheets. We even had a little tv in the carriage and bottled water, and both managed to sleep atleast part of the way.
